Our eight year old grandson that lives with us has developed asthma, which seems to be triggered in the seasons when pollens are high. We have taken several steps to help him. He has seen a doctor, who made a prescription for him. But we have also installed special filters in the air conditioning system. Hard to Buy For

My wife is pretty hard to by special gifts because she is not one who likes diamond rings or fancy clothes or new gadgets. She is happier with some practical and useful item. Things from Home

I am leaving for Dominica on Monday, part of a team that is going down to assist our missionary in planting a congregation in a new village on the island. I asked him a couple of days ago if there is anything he wants me to bring him. I thought he might want picante sauce, or chili or some other taste from home he cannot find there. But he told me all he wants is some extra computer memory. No problem, it is easy to get and takes up no room in the luggage!

Locks and Locker Rooms

When I first signed up at the new local YMCA, I would got to the gym and work out, run on the treadmill and then go home and clean up. But recently I went and got a new Schlage lock so that I can put my clothes in a locker at the Y while I work out then clean up in the locker room. It will save me twenty minutes or a half an hour over going home to clean up.

New Digs!

Our friends have moved into a new home on the opposite side of town. The primary reason is that he has lost use of one of his feet and climbing the stairs to the bedroom was so hard for him. The new house is one story. The new place also has a pool in which he can do water exercises. There is a nice deck with comfortable patio furniture in which his wife can sit to watch and encourage!

Savings Accounts

I have been a member of my local credit union for nearly five decades. My dad started savings accounts for me and my siblings. We were expected to save half of our paychecks while we were still at home. He wanted to teach us the value of saving. When my girls were born, I opened a savings account for each of them and instituted the same rule for my girls. New Office

My new office is a bit smaller than the one from which I moved, after our expansion. But it has nice amenities. I love everything from the custom made cabinets and book shelves, to the HDMI wall plate just above my built in desk. I have window on the south wall and one on the west wall, and there is an entrance to the building just outside my office door, that is almost my own private entrance!

Happy Blogger

About two years ago my middle daughter invited me to join her in a blogging community that she had found. She thought I would like because she knew I had enjoyed writing for several years.

She also enticed to my oldest daughter to join us in the community, so it was a very pleasant experience, not jus with writing my thoughts, but also getting to read their thoughts as well. As my daughters had been grown and gone from home for many years, it was a special joy to get to get up and read what was on their mind on a regular basis.

I had had no experience with blogging prior to that, so I was unsure how I would like having a virtual audience. But the committee was very close knit and we enjoyed the camaraderie developed in the blogging neighborhood. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading and commenting on other blogs. I was also surprised at how important it was to me to receive comments and interact with people about things I had written.

Now I have blogged in several different communities and there is seldom a day that goes by without my posting in a blog somewhere, most often several of my blogs receive a post. You can tell, blogging makes me happy. It has come to be one of my favorite activities.

New Neighbors

We had new neighbors move in across the street. They are a nice young couple, with a daughter the same age as the older of our two grandsons that live with us. They kids get along well together. The young man and his father have a little shop that does custom picture framing as their primary work. They also carry art supplies and some nice gift items.

Announcing Dog In Yard

For the first few years we lived at our current address, we did not have a dog. But when Hurricanes Rita and Katrina went through and left so many pets homeless, we decided to adopt a dog. We settled on a yellow lab that the vet at the shelter said was about a year and a half old. We named him Buccaneer. He is a big boy with a deep voice. He is very friendly, but when a stranger enters the yard, his bark is pretty scary!

So for the sake of meter readers and service men, we were pleased when I was selected by Dog In Yard.com to put up one of their dog in yard signs. They promptly sent the sign. We are happy that it does not look menacing as it announces that Buc is in the yard, rather it provides a pleasant image to those approaching the fence. The sign even arrived with the brass screws to attach it to the fence.

A Very Nice Night

I was called a few days ago by a young man I had not heard form in quite some time. He is finishing up his drug rehab, he has been sober and clean now for over five months. He said he had been thinking about getting his life right with God and recalled some of the things I had tried to teach him years ago. When we met, I had the privilege of baptizing him into Christ. A very nice night!

It is pretty amazing to see how cheap some of the computer technology is these days. I went to see about a new hard drive for my pc a couple of days ago and found I could get 500 GB Sata hard drive for less than a hundred dollars. I can add 256MB of ram for only forty dollars and pick up a 2 GB flash drive for under twenty dollars!
