Cleaning Up

When our city made the appeal for groups to adopt a section of road way to keep clean, our congregation’s young people volunteered. The city provided the trash bags, the orange vests, the disposable gloves and put up a sign announcing that the groups was responsible for the clean up. The kids were excited about the sign, and they realized it was not only an honor, but also made them accountable!

Recessed Lights

My wife came up with big plans for the remodeling of the main bath room of our home. She replaced the cabinets, replaced the floor, had a new tub and fixtures installed, but the thing that she has talked about most since the completion of the project is replacement of the ceiling light with a row of recessed lights that really changes the look and the brightness of the room.

Twice a Week At the Y!

I signed up at the YMCA last fall and have been making a practice of stopping in to use the exercise equipment at least a couple of times a week. I work on the rowing machine, the arm curl and arm extension machines, on the bench press, the leg press and the ab crunch machines. I am gaining some strength and toning things up a bit.

Afraid of Computers

My dad is now 80 and is afraid of computers. I keep telling him that he could pick up the basics in a short time and that he would enjoy learning the skills. And with his grandkids and great grandkids scattered all over the world, he could be in touch with them through email or Skype calls. I have offered to buy him a computer, but he is resistant because he is does not want to waste the money if he does not like it. Maybe a computer rental would make sense, to let him try it before jumping in headfirst!

Natural Cures

My daughter is something of a health nut. She runs all the time and watches her diet. She does not eat, nor serve her kids the preservatives that are a part of so many processed foods. She also likes to use natural cures for the aches and pains that are sustained from all their activities. She would prefer, for instance, for her kids to use natural acne treatments than to use some synthesized chemical that may have adverse affects on the ecology or have side effects for the user!

Term or Whole Life!!!!!!!

Recently I have noticed a number of commercials promoting whole life insurance policies. Those are policies that build a cash value over a period of years and require payment only for a set number of years. The premiums on such policies are considerably higher that those for term life insurance policies. If you buy term and invest the difference in the premiums, you will have more money in the account than you would on the whole life policy.

Jake & Roy O

Good friends Jake Peavy and Roy Oswalt opposed one another on the mound in the opening game of the season for the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros. Peavy got the win, 4-0 over Houston. The 'Stros only got four hits. But the worst part of the night for Oswalt surely had to be that his buddy had a hit and a sacrifice fly to drive in two runs, and he walked in the other plate appearance!
