What's Old Is What's New!
When I was a boy, the television set was a piece of furniture. The picture tube, remember those, was built into a cabinet, often with doors so that it could be hidden when not in use. That concept went out of style in recent years, but is likely to make its way back into the forefront with the advent of tv lifts. The flat screen televisions can be hidden in a console and automatically raised for viewing or lowered to put it out of sight. There are even some models of lifts being installed in the foot of a bed frame for night time viewing ease!
Hoodia Follows the Holidays!
A few months ago I received a free sample bottle of hoodia in the mail. I put it in my desk drawer at the office, for some reason. Over the holidays I have put on more weight than I want so I am thinking of using the hoodia samples to see if it really will suppress my appetite and help me get that weight off before it becomes a permanent attachment!

Do You Believe Clemens
The Mitchell Report about the use of steroids in baseball has been published and it names Roger Clemens as one of the repeated users. Clemens is not showing his face in public much right now, but has issued a complete denial. And an opened legal document in California vindicates Roger in a related case. Does that help you believe him?

Sleeping Well on Christmas Eve
My son in law has purchased a memory foam mattress for he and his wife for Christmas. He is having it delivered on Christmas Eve. I know my daughter will be happy with a replacement for their twenty year old mattress. I hope the delivery is not late and that the kids can sleep tight, while visions of sugar plums dance in their heads, while Santa makes his rounds!

Stun Master!
I signed up to receive one of the self defense products offered by AAA-Safety.com. I promised to review the product and post my thoughts. I was pleased a few days later to receive a Stun Master 100-S stun gun. This little handheld device packs a real punch. Just a moderate blast of 1-4 seconds is enough to cause an attacker to fall to the ground. A five second charge can immobilize the assailant, leaving him or her dazed and weak for several minutes!
The Stun Master 100-2 only requires a 9 volts nickel-cadmium battery, comes with a wrist strap, but fits easily in the hand. I will give this to my daughter, who is a nurse that works the evening shift and has to go to her car in a dark parking lot afterward. She will be very pleased!

Franchises
When I had my real estate license I worked for a local independent realtor, and our competition was almost all the same type of real estate office. Today there seems to be a trend toward individual realtors entering into a real estate franchise with a bigger corporation like GMAC. There are many benefits to being tied to a well known brand name, not the least of which is improved profitability.

Where to Retire?
Sometimes my wife and I will talk about the right place to retire. We may end up staying in Texas because of proximity to our children, but we have recently been thinking that living in Coastal Carolina would suit us well. We have gone online to check into Wilmington NC real estate, seeking an affordable place near the ocean and the great golf courses.

Closed Captioning
A friend at church just had to move her mother, who is deaf, into her home with her family. There are some difficulties that will take some time to overcome and to adjust to, but one of the discoveries they made was a closed captioning service that will allow their DVD's and videos to be viewable for her mom. Both are very excited.

Mattess Woes
My wife and I have tried several different mattresses over the 40 years we have spent together. She developed back trouble early on, so we have tried soft mattresses, hard mattresses, water beds and pillow tops. Our next mattress will be one of those memory foam mattress that were developed for the astronauts. I hope it helps her sleep better. If it does, it will be worth the price.

Kaz In, Chris Out!
Over the weekend, the Houston Astros signed second baseman Kaz Matsui to a three year contract. He is a proven major league hitter, he has good speed and is an excellent defensive player. That strengthens the Astros considerably, making all the pitchers a bit better and the offense more sound!
But it also signals the end of Chris Burke's time with the Astros, He had been thought to be the one who would take over second base when Craig Biggio retired. But for the past two seasons, he has looked to me to be overmatched against big league pitching. I only hope he can be a part of a significant trade for starting pitching. That would make the 'Stros better and would give burke a chance to establish himself elsewhere.
